Tennessee Changes Law That Affects Barbers

One might not think of a Barber Shop or Salon the type of place to require domestic abuse training courses for their stylists, but the new bill Tennessee just passed proves otherwise. According to , A new law passed by Tennessee legislators will require hairstylists and barbers to know the signs of domestic violence.

This free, one-hour training will not only teach them the signs of domestic violence but will also make sure they know the proper resources to give to their client if he or she is a possible victim. Pavo Salon co-owner Scot Robinson said it’s a responsibility they take seriously. He said this new law requiring all licensed barbers and cosmetologists to take a course on domestic violence signs is a good thing.

“For me, I didn’t really look at it as a negative. It’s just kind of a good thing to be aware of and to be able to bring awareness to others as well.”
Starting January 1, 2022, anyone getting their license must take the course, and people already licensed, must take the course by December of 2025.
